EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR -
Russell Balthis
Russell Balthis, a Summit County native, is no stranger to the
Summit County Democratic Party. At the age of 17, he
contacted Summit County Democratic Party Chair Russ Pry about
volunteer opportunities. Since that day, Russ has
volunteered thousands of hours for various Democratic candidates.
He has served as President of The Ohio State University College
Democrats; Chair of OSU Students for Tim Hagan; Summit County
Coordinator for Mary Boyle for State Treasurer, and, most
recently, Treasurer for The Don Plusquellic Committee. His
efforts on behalf of the party were recognized in 2002 when he was
named the Summit County Young Democrat of the Year. During
his college years Russ worked for the Ohio House of
Representatives, the Summit County Executive's Office, and the
Summit County Board of Elections.
Russ holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Economics and
Political Science from The Ohio State University. In May
2007 he will receive his JD from The University of Akron School of
Law. As a prelude to that field of study, he participated in
a five week pre-law study abroad program at England's Oxford
University. Another degree will be added in December 2007
when Russ receives a Masters Degree in Business from The
University of Akron.
As
the newly appointed Executive Director his prime responsibility is
to build upon the recent successes of the Democratic Party and
continue the stellar work of his predecessor Christine Higham.
Russ plans to strengthen existing relationships; expand the number
of party supporters; and enhance the line of communication at the
county, city, village, and township levels. His duties also
include maintaining the party's database and website; recruiting
volunteers; and coordinating events. His seven years of
tireless and impressive efforts on behalf of the Democratic Party
clearly show he has the vision, passion, resilience,
resourcefulness, energy, and commitment to get the job done.
