Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Kick Off Event

The Akron Branch NAACP is proud to present Magistrate Judge Kenneth McHargh. Magistrate McHargh will discuss his role in the investigation of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was staff counsel with the U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee on Assassinations, investigating the deaths of Dr. King and President John F. Kennedy.

Judge McHargh is a 1966 Honor graduate of Akron South High School. After graduating with honors from the College of Wooster in 1970, he went on to the University of Connecticut School of Law where he served as a student public defender. He co-founded the NAACP legal Redress Committee and was President of the Black Law Students Association. Judge McHargh joined New Haven Legal Assistance Association as a staff attorney and later managing attorney. Judge McHargh joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio in 1979 where he served in a variety of roles. He also served as a principal architect of efforts resulting in the creation of multi-investigative agency task forces.

On March 1, 2004, Kenneth S. McHargh was appointed by the Judges of the United State District Court for the Northern Ditrict of Ohio to serve an 8-year term as United States Magistrate Judge at the Carl B. Stokes Federal Court in Cleveland, where he handles a variety of civil and criminal cases. In 2012, he was re-appointed to serve a second 8-year term.
